The Ministry of Education and Shaanxi Provincial Government recently approved the establishment of Shaanxi Polytechnic University, upgrading from Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute. With a planned enrollment of 20,000 students, it will debut six undergraduate majors in mechanical, material, automation, and other fields.
Founded in 1950, the university became Northwest China's first vocational college in 1999 and merged with another institute in 2010. Over 75 years, it has specialized in industrial skills training, serving the equipment manufacturing industry. Recognized as a national-level advanced vocational education unit twice, it has also earned titles like National Civilized Campus and National Demonstrative Higher Vocational College. It has trained 180,000+ high-skilled professionals, including national craftsmen and model workers.
In recent years, the university expanded to three campuses and was selected for the top-tier “Double High-level Program”in 2019. Aligning with Shaanxi's 34 key industrial chains, it offers 67 majors across 12 categories. It led 25 national pilot projects, filled 31 provincial vocational education gaps, and ranked 2nd nationally in teaching awards. Boasting renowned faculty teams, it joined the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Alliance, deepened cooperation with CATL, and commercialized achievements like“flexible glass.” Ranked first among science and engineering vocational colleges in 2023-2024, it stands as a national leader.
Looking ahead, Shaanxi Polytechnic University will uphold its vocational focus, serving Shaanxi, the western region, and the world, aiming to become a world-class vocational university.
