SXPI Held TVET Capability Building Workshop

From October 27th to 28th, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute (SXPI) successfully held Outcomes-Based Education Workshop for Teacher Training and Curriculum Development through online platform. More than 440 members from 36 countries participated in the workshop.

Focusing on the Material Shaping and Control Technology Major Cluster of SXPI, it presented to the world community of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) providers the processed experience and examples used at SXPI curriculum design and teaching.

Background


Over the past years, SXPI has actively embraced the development of the advanced manufacturing industry, cooperated in depth with industrial enterprises, and focused on vocational ability requirements of new positions in industry. Moreover, SXPI has carried out the profound professional cultivation and made new breakthroughs in the cultivation of engineering technicians by creating new scenarios, establishing new modes, building new mechanisms and opening up new visions. Through this workshop, SXPI hoped to contribute to the development of vocational education in the countries along the belt and road and promote exchanges and mutual learning.

Agenda

According to their international research on “Outcomes-Based Talent Cultivation and Evaluation”,Dr. John Clayton, Visiting Professor of SXPI and Mark Laws Endowed Chair Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiārangi, New Zealand,Ms. Gao Yang, Associate Professor of Tianjin City Vocational College andMs. Yang Jie, Associate Professor of Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute, shared their research results on curriculum development and talent evaluation respectively.

Based on the Material Shaping and Control Technology Major Cluster,Prof. Li Yun, Dean of the Material Engineering School, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute, with six backbone teaching and research personnel, shared their innovative initiatives and practice on technology skills innovation service platform, scientific research cooperation, student skills competition, teaching standard construction, social service, school-enterprise cooperation, and "research, study and application" integrated talent training mode.

On the topic of “Deepening Cooperation between School and Enterprises”,Mr. Yang Jun, Vice CEO, KOCEL, General Manager, China National Intelligent Foundry Industry Innovation Centre, introduced the joint talent-cultivation practice and in-depth cooperation with SXPI Material Engineering School.

Communications and Feedback

The workshop received positive feedback from the participants and achieved good results.

Julius, President of Yaba College of Technology, Nigeria, said that this online training was a high-level vocational training with rich content and targeted knowledge. He expressed his admiration for the achievements of China's vocational education, and hoped that Yaba College of Technology could establish a cooperative relationship with SXPI and learn from the successful experience of SXPI in curriculum development and teacher training.

Tsegaye Tefera, Director of General Wingate Polytechnic College, Ethiopia, said that the training provided him with a valuable opportunity to learn about Chinese vocational education. Impressive, he learned a lot of China's advanced vocational education concepts and practices.
