Recently, UNESCO International Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNESCO-UNEVOC) officially approved Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute (SXPI) as the organization's center in China. SXPI became the first TVET institution in the central and western regions of China to join the UNEVOC Network.

UNEVOC is a key center of UNESCO’s international work in technical and vocational education and training. The center coordinates and manages the UNESCO International Vocational Education Network (UNEVOC Network), which is the first international cooperation, exchange and mutual learning platform serving vocational education in the world. Its members include over 220 UNEVOC Centers in more than 140 countries, covering national ministries, national organizations, education and training institutions (including universities) and research institutions.

In the Promoting the High Quality Development of Modern Vocational Education issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council of China, it clearly proposed to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO and other international and regional organizations. Being one of the UNEVOC Center was of high significance for SXPI, which had built a higher platform for the school to participate in the global vocational education governance and to carry out the global vocational education policy dialogue.

On October 25, Professor Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Beijing Office in China, sent a congratulatory letter to SXPI and extended warm congratulations on SXPI as the UNESCO-UNEVOC contact center in China. He said that the mission of UNESCO Organizations was in line withthe United Nations’ Framework for Sustainable Development Cooperation (2021-2025). Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) and skills development were strategic priorities for the UNESCO. He looked forward to working closely with SXPI to promote the TVET and skills development agenda in China.

With the support of UNESCO-UNEVOC, the UNEVOC Centers work together to achieve the Network’s mission: to improve the standards and quality of TVET systems globally. As an important vocational education institution of UNESCO in China, the UNEVOC Center at SXPI will assist the policy makers in developing vocational education policies, coordinating the national vocational education network, sharing innovative cases and participating in the resource development, information exchange, and international seminars in the field of vocational education.
