According to 2017 China National Vocational College Skills Competition Award List recently published by the Ministry of Education, Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute ranked the third in the country with 46 awards received, which also made it in the first place among higher vocational colleges in western China.

China National Vocational Students Skills Competition is hosted every year since 2008. Focusing on real working process, China National Vocational Students Skills Competition aims to cultivate vocational colleges and schools students' team work spirit and hands on ability, serve the national and regional urgent needs for skills persons.

In 2017, totally 13,655 vocational colleges and schools student from 37 provinces and cities participated in 81 skills competition programs held in Tianjin, Jilin, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi and Qingdao city.On June 3, SXPI hosted the competition of Photovoltaic Electronic Engineering Design and Operation, which is the first time that China National Vocational Students Skills Competition Committee made Shaanxi as the hosting province.
