On September 2^ed, H.E.Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, visited Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute,accompanied by the first lady, Ms. Gertrude Mutharika and other top officials. Wei Zengjun, Shaanxi Deputy Governor, Yao Hongjuan, Director of Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office, Liu Hongyang, Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, and Wang Lei, Foreign Ministry Counselor, also accompanied Mutharika for the visit. Hui Zhaoyang, SXPI Party Secretary, warmly welcomed Mutharika and his delegation.

President Mutharika successively visited Automotive Engineering Training Center, CNC Engineering Training Center and Electrical & Information Engineering Training Center. During the visit, President Mutharika showed his keen interest in the advanced training facilities and excellent teaching environment. He kept interacting with the teachers and students on the scene.

Followed the campus visit, a lecture about China TVET and SXPI orientation was given by SXPI party secretary Hui Zhaoyang. Hui Zhaoyang said,“President Mutharika’s visit is a historical moment for SXPI. SXPI wish to establish cooperation programs with TVET institutions in Malawi, promote the joint-construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, make even greater contributions to the win-win prosperity of bilateral countries and build a community of common destiny for mankind.”

President Mutharika gave highly praises to the achievements SXPI has made.“Itwas a great pleasure to visit this great Institution. Thank you for your kind hospitality. I look forward to cooperation between SXPI and our Institutions in Malawi.”He wrote for SXPI on the VIP guests books at the end of the visit.

President Mutharika’s visit is of high significance to SXPI as it is striving to make a world well-known institute, especially, in the background of 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, of which the theme is to build a closer community with a shared future for China and Africa, President Mutharika’s visit made the first step of the cooperation between SXPI and Malawi.
