China-New Zealand Cooperation on Teacher Training Base in SXPI

As a fruitful result of cooperation between SXPI and its New Zealand partner, Wintect, Sino-New Zealand Vocational Education Model Programme Teacher Training Base was unveiled in Xi’an on May 11. Mr. Fang Guanghua, vice governor, Shaanxi. Ms. Rebekah Mawson, Counsellor, New Zealand Embassy,and Ms. Zhang Xiaoyun, SXPI president, jointly unveiled the plate for the teacher training base. The unveiling was held during the Opening Ceremony of Silk Road Education Cooperation Expo which was organized by Shaanxi government. The found of the teacher training base is a fruit of TVET cooperation between China and New Zealand since the governments signed education cooperation agreement in Beijing in 2013, promoting cooperation on TVET institutions is one of the important items in the agreement.

Since 2016, SXPI and Wintec made good cooperation on teachers' training, with SXPI sent 31 teachers to New Zealand for long term and short time training and visiting study. With the support from the education authorities of both countries, the two institutes cooperatively establish the training based on SXPI campus. It is expected that the base will greatly stimulate SXPI and Wintec cooperate on teachers capability development, research and conference.

“I hope the training base is not only to benefit SXPI teachers, but also benefits teachers from whole ChinaTVET institutions. As a leading institute in New Zealand, Wintec will offer the quality and relevant programme to the base.” said,Tony O'Brien,Director of Wintect SINO-NZ model programme.
