Dear TVET Friends,

Increasingly governments are looking to vocational and professional colleges to provide engineering graduates who will drive economic growth, facilitate social cohesion, and improve the health and wellbeing of its citizens. TVET providers are responding to these multi-layered challenges by reviewing and realigning their vision, mission, and values. They are repurposing themselves to establish learning environments designed to encourage creativity, innovation, and work-readiness. This means countries need to ensure their technical vocational education and training (TVET) infrastructure can respond to the ever-changing requirements of their stakeholders. This response requires a greater understanding of the needs of emerging industries, anticipated changes to existing occupations and the social needs of their communities. In this, Institutions need to modify and adapt TVET content, qualifications, and teaching methods to keep pace with shifts to new production technologies, organisational structures, societal demands, and economic growth.

Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute (SXPI) is a leading TVET provider in China and has a long tradition of providing work-ready engineering graduates for industry. In the drive to be internationally recognized, SXPI ensures its graduates meet internationally recognised engineering standards. This means SXPI continuously reviews and modernises the courses offered to achieve this goal. The team from the School of International Education in SXPI supported by staff at Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarngi, New Zealand has created a robust and engaging induction programme outlining the process used in curriculum design/re-design including the fundamentals of outcomes-based assessment and student-centric teaching practices.

The induction programme will encourage TVET educators to reflect on the current engineering courses they provide, and the teaching approaches used. During the programme, participants will review authentic examples from the School of Material Engineering at SXPI. Participants will also be provided with internationally aligned templates for use in the design of engineering learning activities.

The sessions will be held at 2:30 PM Beijing Time (GMT + 8) on October 27 and 28. You are welcomed to register for the workshop with the link,
